Home Buying Q&A + Fridge Organization

We’re in the home streeetch, my friends! We scheduled our final inspections, paperwork is wrapping up, and last stage fixes and touches are basically all that’s left. Andrew and I sat down to answer your first-time home buyer questions. Peep the video + don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel for more videos. And if you missed part one of this process, make sure to read the backstory on Buying Our First House and take a peek at our new kitchen with the beautiful Counter-Depth 4-Door French Door Showcase fridge we picked out in partnership with Samsung.

Now, that we’re preppin’ for our big move, we decided to do things a bit differently this time around. Since we have a month overlap before our apartment lease ends, we’re taking advantage of the extra time to get super organized. You know how nice it is to purge unwanted belongings prior to moving? Well, in addition to doing that, we are ALSO pre-organizing our belongings prior to moving. In other words, we have a plan of action for where certain items will live in our new house, as well as how we will organize them.

I already went out and purchased organizers for the pantry and fridge, so we can easily unload and organize right off the bat. We figured we’d rather not have to unpack and then go back and reorganize it.

Picking Out Fridge Organizers

We kept it simple and essential. I’m not proud of purchasing plastic acrylic organizers, but despite all of my research, I couldn’t find a recycled plastic or stronger eco-friendly alternative (there’s definitely a hole in the market). I looked into bamboo, stainless steel, and glass, but ultimately these were just storage containers versus organizational dividers. Also, bamboo and wood just wouldn’t hold up well in a wet fridge environment. So, I went to the Container Store and purchased around five acrylic containers that we will hold up for years inside our fridge. We also picked up some wire bins for inside our pantry.

Once we got back to the house and played around with it, we realized we only needed two of the organizers since our Samsung fridge is dope and already has the drawers sectioned off pretty efficiently. We are returning the other containers we didn’t end up needing, but keeping our pantry bins.

For inside the fridge, we ended up with this container for coconut yogurt, random jars, or maybe some produce like avocados or sweet potatoes, and a soda can dispenser to keep all of our sparkling water (whattup, Spindrift). It’s all BPA-free. I’m super excited to load this baby up. Beyond the containers, we will continue to use our reusable glass jars, glasslock containers, stasher bags, and beeswax wrap for storage and organization.

My fiancé is incredible and doodled up a rad illustration of how we imagine organizing our new Samsung fridge. Check it out below.

The anticipation is REAL. When I open up my current apartment fridge, I can’t help but get excited about the beautiful new fridge waiting for us in just a few weeks. We are so grateful to be working with Samsung this year, and for the opportunity to pick out the fridge of our dreams. You can shop our exact fridge here and check out all of Samsung’s appliances here! And if you haven’t yet, be sure to check out part one of this post where share why we chose this particular fridge.
